Karisma Kapoor’s Children Move Delhi High Court Over Alleged Forged Will of Sunjay Kapur: New Delhi, September 9, 2025 — In a dramatic development surrounding the ₹30,000 crore estate of late businessman Sunjay Kapur, Bollywood actress Karisma Kapoor’s two children have approached the Delhi High Court, seeking a share in their father’s substantial assets. The children have accused their stepmother, Priya Kapur (the third wife of Sunjay Kapur), of forging his will and attempting to gain complete control of his estate.

The legal dispute, which has gained significant public attention, follows the sudden death of Sunjay Kapur in June 2025 while he was in the United Kingdom. The children, Karisma Kapoor’s son and daughter, have argued that they were unfairly excluded from their father’s estate by Priya Kapur and that a purported will made by Sunjay Kapur is fraudulent.

The Alleged Forged Will

At the heart of the controversy is a will purportedly executed by Sunjay Kapur on March 21, 2025, which allegedly bequeaths his entire personal estate to Priya Kapur. The children, represented by their mother, Karisma Kapoor, have strongly contested the authenticity of this will, claiming that it was forged and fabricated under suspicious circumstances.

According to the legal complaint, the will was not disclosed immediately after Sunjay Kapur’s death but was kept hidden for over seven weeks. It was allegedly presented only during a family meeting on July 30, 2025. The children assert that the delay in revealing the will raises doubts about its authenticity and validity.

The lawsuit claims that Priya Kapur, with the help of two associates, Dinesh Agarwal and Nitin Sharma, conspired to suppress the will to gain control of the family fortune. The children’s legal team has described the document as “not a legal and valid document,” citing the lack of both the original will and a copy of it, further fueling suspicions of forgery.

“The Plaintiffs submit that the purported will allegedly executed by the Plaintiffs’ father is not a legal and valid document, is forged and fabricated, and in any event, is surrounded by suspicious circumstances,” the suit states. The children have also noted that neither the original nor a copy of the alleged will has been made available to them, raising additional concerns.

Legal Action and Demand for Share

In their plea, the children have requested the Delhi High Court to declare them as Class I legal heirs under Indian law and seek a one-fifth share of their father’s assets. They have also sought interim relief in the form of freezing all personal assets belonging to Sunjay Kapur until the matter is resolved. This move is seen as an effort to prevent Priya Kapur from disposing of or transferring any of the estate during the legal proceedings.

The suit, which names Priya Kapur, her minor son, Rani Kapur (Priya’s mother), and the purported executor of the will, Shradha Suri Marwah, as defendants, accuses the stepmother of attempting to “usurp full control” of Sunjay Kapur’s assets, leaving out the legitimate heirs.

The Wider Family Feud

Sunjay Kapur, a prominent businessman with interests in various industries, was married to Karisma Kapoor between 2003 and 2016, after which they divorced. The couple had two children together. Priya Kapur, Sunjay’s third wife, has not publicly commented on the allegations, but the legal battle over the estate is expected to escalate as both sides prepare for a prolonged legal fight.

While the family is embroiled in this legal dispute, the value of Sunjay Kapur’s estate — which is said to be worth around ₹30,000 crore — adds further complexity to the matter. The estate reportedly includes significant business assets, real estate holdings, and investments in various sectors. The potential for a long-drawn legal battle over such a vast fortune has already sparked widespread media coverage and public interest.

Legal Experts Weigh In

Legal experts suggest that the case could have far-reaching implications for the way wills are contested in India, especially in high-profile cases involving substantial assets. Shantanu Aggarwal, a senior lawyer at Lexster Law LLP, along with Madhulika Rai Sharma, has filed the suit on behalf of the children. They are focusing on the question of whether the will presented in this case is legitimate and whether the actions of Priya Kapur, if proven, amount to fraudulent behavior.

“Wills are often contested in cases where there is a significant fortune at stake. However, the case of alleged forgery and the suppression of the will will raise important questions about the validity of the document and the ethics of inheritance,” Aggarwal stated.

What’s Next?

The Delhi High Court has yet to set a date for further hearings in the case, but it is expected that the legal proceedings will intensify as both sides present their arguments regarding the authenticity of the will. In the meantime, the court’s decision on the request to freeze the assets will be crucial in maintaining the status quo while the dispute remains unresolved.

This case is expected to garner significant public attention as it unfolds, especially given the high-profile nature of the individuals involved. The outcome could have long-term implications for inheritance law and the handling of family estates in India.
